Mihara: Bonding Chain Best Builds, Teams, and How to Play

Dommy Subby

Overview

  • Similar damage to Scarlet: Black Shadow (SSS tier baseline for DPS), or Asuka: Wille
  • Best Nikke that fills the Sub-DPS role, not needing to burst to deal damage via DoTs from her skill one, dealing comparable to Modernia. Sub-DPS Mihara deals substantially more damage than Modernia against bosses with no core.
  • Very Flexible (despite her chains), strong DPS that can fit in any team
  • DoT Persists after being knocked out of battle (Most of her Damage), which can be useful against bosses/PvP
  • Lacking offensive self-buffs but has rather high % damage value modifiers, DPS is greatly affected by the buffing capabilities of support on the team.

Newbie/Incomplete Box Section

Mihara: Bonding Chain is a excellent DPS/Sub DPS, she’s one of the top fire DPSs and a very flexible one at that. She’s able to deal damage numbers greater than Modernia (previous best sub-DPS), more notably against targets without cores. She’s also competitive with Nikkes like Scarlet: Black Shadow and Rapi: Red Hood (B3)

Using Mihara: Bonding Chain as a sub-DPS instead of a main burst is preferred as her damage gains are less noticeable than other DPS Nikkes (can still be used as the main burst if wanted). Mihara’s burst removes her s1 stacks in exchange for dragging chains (2x more DoT value) and cannot be stacked during her burst, and can only be stacked after her full burst and during any teammate’s full burst once a restraining chain has been applied. This leads to some downtime on her damage.

Most of her damage comes from her DoT, and has trouble destroying boss parts as DoTs don’t damage parts. She also has some issues in Campaign as her AoE capabilities are limited and her DoT needs to stack for every Rapture to deal meaningful damage

  • Burst: III
  • Weapon: MG
  • Class: Attacker

  • Weapon Name: Bonding Heart

Skill 1: Body Contact

■ Activates when entering battle. Affects self.
Charges 10 Restraint Chain(s), up to 10.
■ Activates if the caster has cast Burst Skill before Full Burst ends. Affects self.
Charges 10 Restraint Chain(s), up to 10.
■ Affects random enemy unit(s) at a specific timing.
Deals 50.06% of final ATK as damage. Attacks according to the number of Restraint Chain(s).
Restraint Chain ▼ 1 for each attack
■ Affects the same enemy unit(s).
Ensnaring Chains: Deals 25.08% final ATK as sustained damage every 1 sec continuously, stacks up to 20 time(s).

Restraint Chains are required Ensnaring chains to apply DoT on any/multiple Raptures. Each Restraint Chain stack is converted into Ensnaring chains upon enemy entrance and is applied instantly at the start of battle and after Mihara’s full burst, with a maximum of 20 stacks on one target.

Currently, there’s a “feature” with Mihara that allows her DoT damage to be much higher than expected due to her damage ticks being 15 ticks during any full burst instead of the advertised 10 (1 per sec, over 10 secs).

The extra tick of damage (5% of DoT) is the application of Ensnaring Chains per 40 bullets from skill 2

Ensnaring Chains Alone deals 501.6% DPS per second, but the DPS increase from the higher-than-expected proc rate from her DoT brings this to 752.4%.

This is already higher than Modernia’s normal basic attack values (excluding buffs/core hits). Meaning Mihara: Bonding Chains is a definitely a better sub-dps than Modernia against enemies without core.

Skill 2: Tighten Up

■ Activates after landing 40 normal attack(s) during Full Burst. Affects the target if the target is in Ensnaring Chains status.
Stack count of Ensnaring Chains ▲ 1.
■ Activates when self is incapacitated. Affects the target(s) in Ensnaring Chains status.
Stack count of Ensnaring Chains ▲ 20.
■ Activates when the enemy is neutralized. Affects self if the target is in Ensnaring Chains status.
Restraint Chain ▲ 1, up to 10.
■ Activates when entering Burst Stage 3. Affects self.
Sustained damage ▲ 59.98% for 10 sec.

Mihara can stack 1 Ensaring chain per 40 bullets shot during any teammates’ full burst. Meaning she can stack up to 15~ during any full burst, given full uptime/no reloads (600 bullets/60 shots per second from MG base fire rate). Each proc during full burst deals ticks from Ensnaring chain DoT (for some reason), effectively giving a DoT a proc rate of 1.5/s assuming full uptime on ammo as talked about in her skill 1 section.

Her skill 1 does not proc (1 proc/s) if skill 2 is being triggered (40 normal attacks), which means that her DoT can’t proc more than 1.5/s.

If Mihara gets knocked out, every enemy with Ensnaring chains gains maximum stacks until they are destroyed. This isn’t very useful in most scenarios, as restarting the run would be a better option than a missing DPS and is not feasible to take advantage of in campaign, however can see some niche usage in PvP.

Mihara’s sustain damage up is active every full burst. Sustain damage buffs falls in the damage bracket of ATK dmg up buffs, which buffers such as Crown, Tia, Siren, and etc give.

Burst: Bonding Pain

■ Affects the target(s) in Ensnaring Chains status.
Dragging Chain: Deals 50.05% of final ATK as sustained damage every 1 sec. Mirrors the stack count of Ensnaring Chains on certain target(s) for 10 sec.
Removes Ensnaring Chains status after the effect is triggered.

Ensaring chains and Dragging chains can’t exist at one time as her burst removes all Ensnaring chain procs and converts them to Dragging chains. Ensnaring chains can’t be made during her burst as the target needs to get hit by a restraint chain before Ensnaring chains can be stacked, which Mihara gives after her full burst.

Mihara can have both Dragging chains + Ensnaring chains at one time; however is very impractical to apply in any mode as it requires two full bursts and a tanky mob or multiple mobs with good RNG.

Since Restraining chains does not apply instantly to a target once a rapture with Ensnaring chains is destroyed, there is a very short window where the commander needs to destroy a target with Ensnaring chains then burst before the animation of the chain hits a target.

Most bosses usually don’t summon mobs, and if they do, it’s usually multiple and chains hit at random. Making this tech incredibly hard to use, even if possible.

Dragging chains deal 2x more base value than Ensaring chains HOWEVER does not share the same accelerated proc rate values that Ensaring chains has (1.0 vs 1.5/s). Mihara’s target will also only have 10 Ensnaring chains after her burst (from skill 1) and will need a full burst to stack it again. Dealing decreased damage for short periods.

This results in her burst not dealing much more damage than just leaving her as a sub-dps/non-burster in the team. However, there are scenarios where bursting with her would be worth doing so, such as when being paired with Crown as she gives a hefty ATK buff to BURSTING Nikkes, which is great on Mihara as she does not have any innate self ATK buffs.

Note: Since Mihara: Bonding chain starts with 10 stacks, it is recommended to have her burst second to fully stack it or her first burst will only do half of its potential damage.

Campaign

Mihara: Bonding Chain is only average in Campaign due to how her DoT procs work. It does not fully “Transfer” to other targets when enemies are eliminated with her DoT procs. Instead, she gets 1 stack of restraining chain, which equates to only 1 Ensnaring chain to a random target. This makes her inadequate as a DPS and Crowd-control Nikke in Campaign as her damage ramp-up is too slow (even for elite raptures/stage bosses) and too single-target focused.

Arena

Mihara, in PvP, is a gimmicky unit. The gimmick she so desires is that she needs to die, while the team needs to live. Hence, this means that Mihara requires stall teams if she wants to win, and that those teams have a way where Mihara ends up dying in the end as well. The exact mechanism behind Mihara’s PvP prowess on why she deals damage after dying will be explained in our dedicated PvP guide for Mihara.

Mihara: Bonding Chain,Scarlet: Black shadow,centi,blanc,jackal

The idea behind this team is that Mihara is NOT jackal linked, or if she is, it is made sure her HP is HIGHER THAN SBS’s. This way, SBS gets indomitability from Blanc and the team lives for a full 10s, dealing atrociously strong single target and AoE damage thanks to Mihara. If this team bursts, there is no team AT ALL that can win against it.

Special Interception | Union Raid | Solo Raid

By Nature, Mihara: Bonding chain is a very flexible Nikke as she can fit the role of a sub-dps in any team. She can be placed in any team and perform well, similar to Modernia (but better). Mihara’s DPS isn’t punished as harshly compared to other DPSs if the boss does not have an exposed core/has low uptime on core compared to other DPSs as well due to how she dishes out damage, which means she performs well against any boss (well, if they don’t have any DoT damage reduction) or even a top pick DPS against fire-weak bosses without core.

However, some bosses randomly have DoT protection, simply just because. Although not common, the one where it does matter, the boss does have it. Boss in question is the fire-weak boss in Anomaly interception. Although not completely unusable against Indivilia, any raised fire DPS at S tier+ will most likely be a better option.

NOTICE

After the Update on May 15th, Miharas DoTs can no longer be dispelled. This means they won’t be cleansed by Indivilia anymore and will therefore improve her rating on this boss. It’s still slightly bad because new DoTs can’t be applied during the debuff-immunity Phase but at least the old ones aren’t removed. Clearing Indivilia with Mihara: Bonding Chain is now basically common.

Union Raid | Solo Raid

Mihara: Bonding chain can be comfortably placed in Union raids and solo raids in fire-weak content, especially against bosses with no exposed cores. In neutral element content, she can effectively fill the slot of Modernia or Ludmilla: Winter Owner as the third DPS in teams that don’t use “duo/pair” supports (Crown/Naga, Anchor/Mast, Blanc/Noir).

Mihara: Bonding chain has comparable damage to Scarlet: Black Shadow w/Alice, but the difference is Mihara can function alone WITHOUT bursting, while Scarlet: Black Shadow is “soft locked” to Alice and needs to burst to deal damage. This helps Mihara with future team-building, flexibility and adaptability to the future meta.

Team Building Ideology

Mihara: Bonding chain lacks offensive buffs such as ATK ▲, which most other DPS have innately. This means that Mihara: Bonding chain do like supporters that give massive ATK such as Liter or Crown (if Mihara is bursting)

Although Mihara does like ATK buffs, in most cases it may not be worth it to slot Liter over an available Rapi: Red Hood (B1) or Little Mermaid/Siren as they do have non-conditional cool down reduction which allows 1 more full burst over Liter throughout the battle, and provide overall more team damage due to them dealing massively more DPS than Liter. Mihara’s lack of ATK buffs can also be mitigated by multiple lines of ATK gear rolls (ATK/offensive buffs from battle are additive to Overload gear lines)

As a MG, she has little burst generation by her lonesome, so she wants to be paired in teams that have good burst generation weapons (Rocket Launchers, Sniper rifle spam) or Nikkes that can gain burst generation via skills such as Grave’s massively increased burst gen from MGs or Siren’s burst gen fill passive that proc on bullets hit/fired.

Fire Element Teams (Universal)

little mermaid,crown,rapi: red hood,mihara: bonding chain,Helm (Treasure)

Bread and butter fire element team for Mihara. Covers healing, burst generation, most importantly DPS (also has nice behind views).

Replacements:
Siren -> Liter
Helm -> Modernia (against bosses that does not require healing, or for firing range bragging rights)
Crown -> Grave

little mermaid,Crown,Rapi: Red Hood,Rei ayanami,mihara: bonding chain

Rei Ayanami supplies the much-needed ATK buffs Mihara: Bonding chain lacks while dishing out good damage. Mihara: Bonding chain is a sub-dps here as Rei ayanami requires to burst to provide buffs for fire-coded allies.

Replacements:
Crown -> Grave
Siren -> Liter

Fire Element Teams (With Core)

Healing Variant

rapi: red hood,crown,asuka,mihara: Bonding chain,naga

Abuses core damage buffs, despite Mihara mostly dealing non-core damage, she can still benefit from it as it is still a additional multiplier to her damage. Although it is more recommended to use Naga/Asuka on Nikkes that can benefit from core damage more, such as with Alice/Rapi: Red Hood (B3) instead, especially against bosses with multiple parts + core.

No-Healing Variant

Little mermaid,Crown,Asuka,Rapi: Red Hood,Mihara: bonding chain

Has a higher DPS potential than its healing variant due to more proper burst generation and Rapi: Red Hood being a burst 3 instead of a burst 1, even if losing some of the core damage buffs Naga can provide. Can be used if playing around with Crown invulnerability is enough to sustain the team or if the boss has highest ATK targetting, which Asuka will most likely have the highest ATK, and she has self sustain.

Neutral Element Team

little mermaid, mast: romantic maid, anchor: innocent maid, alice, mihara: bonding chain

Maids give all the buffs Mihara: Bonding chain loves (Also Alice) while being able to cover healing and burst generation.

Replacements:
Rapi: Red Hood -> Alice (No finger pain, similar/slightly better performance against bosses without parts/core)

Incomplete Boxes (General Support Archetypes)

General Team Support Archetypes

These support units are usually used if the Commander simply doesn’t have gods greatest gift (Crown), since Mihara: Bonding Chain is a sub-dps (or main DPS if wanted), she can be flexed into any team and pair her with your most raised DPS/favorite DPS and she’ll do well.

tia,naga

Tia’s shields and taunt can save a lot of runs. Despite not having much core damage potential, it is still welcomed to have.

Spam Tia for burst gen.

blanc,noir,rouge

Blanc is the next supporter in line. the player can opt for using Rouge and blanc or simply using Blanc + Noir. Don’t use all three in one team.

Mari,Rosanna: Chic Ocean,Novel

all do similar roles. simply providing more offensive buffs. Mari should be priority to slot in. Do not pair.

If the Commander does not have any of the Nikkes listed above, simply slot a burst gen RL such as Centi or Anis if burst gen is needed. Otherwise use a Nikke with the most CP/preferred buffs.

Strengths

  • Very high DPS potential without any conditions, being the second best fire DPS and having comparable damage to Scarlet: Black Shadow with Alice
  • High base damage % values, which means her damage potential can go higher with future support releases (more specifically, ATK up or ATK damage up buffers)
  • Her damage does not get influenced as much than other DPSs if the boss has an exposed core or not. Which is good as her damage values without core is already in the upper echelon of DPS. Although the inverse is true and does not benefit as much from core buffs, but core buffers can simply be slotted to other teams in content with multiple teams.
  • Flexible DPS Nikke in bossing, can fit in pretty much any team that do not use duo supports
  • Mihara fanbase (Cdubs and Co) can finally breathe in contentment (or get bondaged, whatever is preferred)

Weaknesses

  • Mediocre/Niche in other game modes besides bossing due to no AoE capabilities and slow DoT stacking against multiple targets
  • Somewhat reliant on overload lines such as ATK and Max Ammo Capacity

  1. So now after the May 15th patch, is Mihara bis in Indivilia? Or is the best team still Crown – Rapi – Alice – Asuka – Naga?

  2. Some JP arena whale on X is criticizing the arena section claiming it to be “the worst team he’s ever seen”. Listing out some of their points based on the team order.
    – Blanc that doesn’t burst
    – Sacrificing without Rosanna
    – Unlikeliness of Attacker having less ATK than a Defender
    – If Mihara is jackal-linked, then if she needs to have has higher HP than Scarlet, that means she lives and she is bursting instead of Scarlet
    – Improper use of Jackal for on-hit energy gain.
No practical use whatsoever, they say.

I’m wondering if arena team shown was a mistake or not meant to be taken seriously (because the dude seems to be taking it seriously)

    • Dunno i used to take arena pvp somewhat seriously but since few last updates i lost interest a lot.

      – too much rock paper scissors, literally 40 levels behind player can beat my team if he fits counter, same goes for me, defending is extremly hard, attacking super easy, counters to teams are just too strong. I tried many times (and i still do, i like experimenting) to mix up teams but that does little, player lose one time then switch teams and win against anything you create anyway

      – devs throw at us too much free stuff (skillbooks, doll upgrades), sounds fun on paper = free stuff, but in reality everyone already has upgraded every pvp nikke to 10/10/10 (for more points), before you had to plan stuff, either upgrade pvp nikkes or pve ones, or crucial ones and leave the rest

      – literally what only matters right now is core levels of nikkes, if you have max cored nikkes in arena (the meta ones) you are unbeatable by most players, if not then it doesnt matter what you have, most will beat you rather easly even if you are a lot stronger than them

      – meta is giga boring, most people have one scarlet team, one anis team and one cinderella with few mixed nikkes

      – how burst gauge fill works in pvp is mindblowing to me, i recently tested some stuff vs one player, a scarlet blanc red hood helm jackal team in theory should be countered by for example same team but blanc switched to RL nikke, in theory enemy blanc generates more burst to our scarlet and we generate less to enemy cus RL nikke, but nah, its either the same or even slower. I know how burst works i read guides, i still dont understand this shit sometimes though
