Emma: Tactical Upgrade Early Analysis – Should You Pull?

Now both her and her food smell!

Overview

  • A weak buffer that sees massive upgrades when allied with Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade.
  • No cooldown on either her or Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade means an off-burst cooldown unit has to team up with them.
  • Emma is very mediocre on her own, and is prone to dying because of her perma-taunt without Eunhwa.
  • With all the synergizing buffs all members of Absolute have, especially to Vesti: Tactical Upgrade, they could be considered the series’ first ‘trio’ unit.
  • Taunt when used by herself could see use in PvP, testing needed.

Should you Pull?

Emma is a B1 Supporter intended to work strictly with her own team. Unlike similar duos that become less dysfunctional with their partner, but can still function on their own (i.e. Mast: Romantic Maid, Blanc in PvP, either Tia or Naga), it’s really difficult to make Emma: Tactical Upgrade work by herself.

She provides too little to the team on her own and she is likely to die in PvE content by herself. It’s recommended to wait for Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade to be available first and get her before considering the other squadmates. Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade has great potential as a solo B2 for Elysion Tower and is more functional than Emma by herself.

Newbie/Incomplete Box Section

Emma: Tactical Upgrade is a B1 20s Fire Supporter that is part of an intended duo with Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade, and both combine to provide a ton of DPS buffs, especially to Vesti: Tactical Upgrade.

Without her intended duo, Emma: Tactical Upgrade is very mediocre, since the good parts of her S1 aren’t permanently active, which causes her burst to not always provide maximum effect. In fact, her permanent taunt when used on her own in PvE is likely to get her killed more often than not. A lot of great S2 effects are also locked behind needing Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade on the same team.

Even with Eunhwa, however, the duo suffers from a flaw; the lack of cooldown means an offburst cooldown unit will have to exist in their team to ensure the team has proper burst rotations. This is less of an issue nowadays compared to in the past, but it is something to take into account.

Skill 1: Environment Setup

Function: Sprays a solution into the surroundings to create an advantageous battlefield.
Effect 1: Damage Taken ▲3.9 % for 10 sec.
Effect 1 Target(s): All enemies (including those that appear during Environment Setup)

Effect 2: Environment Setup: Continuously recovers 2.32% of caster’s final Max HP every 1 sec for 10 sec.
Effect 2 Target(s): All allies

Recurring interval: 30 sec

■ Activates when the enemy appears. Affects self.
Exposure (Undispellable)
Effect: Attract: Taunt all enemies continuously.

As soon as Emma enters the field, she will activate two beneficial effects, both lasting 10 seconds. She will slightly increase the damage enemies take, and she will also heal allies for some of her final HP. These effects can only happen every 30 seconds when Emma is by herself, giving this skill low uptime. The buffs and heal from it are also really mediocre on their own.

As soon as the battle starts, Emma will also attract all enemies permanently until she dies. As any Tia user can abide by, this is incredibly painful to deal with, and unlike Tia, there is no way to stop or control this effect on her own. This is bad in PvE, but it might have its uses in PvP with Rosanna.

Unlike other effects that only check for enemies once upon activation, Emma’s Damage Taken Debuff will continuously check for spawning enemies throughout its duration, meaning new waves of enemies won’t ‘dodge’ the damage taken debuff while the effect is still active, unlike with Blanc’s burst.

Skill 2: LT Formation

Function: Issues a battle-advantageous tactic to target(s).
Effect 1: Affects all allies from the same squad. Critical damage ▲23.51% continuously.
Effect 2: Affects all allies. Projectile explosion damage ▲2.32% continuously.

Bonus effects when applying AS Formation to self.
Effect 1: Affects all allies. True damage ▲ 30.97% continuously.
Effect 2: Affects all allies. Projectile explosion damage ▲3.09% continuously.
Effect 3: Affects self. Exposure activation disabled continuously.
Effect 4: Affects self. Recurring interval of Environment Setup ▼ 20 sec continuously.

Clarification: AS Formation is the name of Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade’s S2 skill. AS Formation also has effects that only activate when Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade receives LT Formation buffs.

On its own, LT Formation is incredibly weak. Emma increases the critical damage of members from her own squad only, so only Nikkes that are part of Absolute can receive this buff. She also increases the damage of explosions from projectiles. This includes both rockets from a rocket launcher, and Rapi: Red Hood’s attachable projectiles when detonating.

When Emma: Tactical Upgrade is in the same team as Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade, both of their skills receive big upgrades, because they’re working together in Formation; For Emma, she continuously provides a substantial true damage buff, slightly increases the projectile explosion damage she provides from LT Formation even further, and massively improves her Environment Setup Skill.

Environmental Setup has the timing interval of both its healing to allies and damage taken debuff to enemies lowered by 20 seconds, down to 10 seconds, making both effects effectively permanent until Emma is incapacitated. Emma also no longer continuously taunts all enemies, increasing her survivability and utility.

Burst: Battlefield Formation

Affects all allies. Battlefield Formation: ATK ▲ 40.07% of caster’s ATK for 10 sec.
Affects self, if self is in Environment Setup status.

Function: Enhances Environment Setup
Duration: 10 sec

Effect 1: Damage taken multiplier of Environment Setup is scaled by 100%.
Effect 1 Target(s): All enemies

Effect 2: Potency of HP restored ▲29.04%.
Effect 2 Target(s): All allies

First, Emma buffs all allies by giving them a decent attack buff. Since it is a caster ATK buff, it scales with more copies and base attack increases. Second, she activates more effects only if she has her own Environment Setup (S1) buff active; She doubles the damage taken debuff enemies receive, and increases the healing allies receive from all healing skills, including her Environmental Setup skill.

Since the latter effects can only take place when S1 is active, this is substantially harder to apply when Emma is by herself, since on her own, the effect only lasts 10 seconds, but has a 30 second interval (20 second downtime) With Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade, Emma’s S1 is permanently active, meaning there’s no need to worry about timing the effect with Emma’s burst.

Campaign

On her own, Emma is a middling choice for campaign; Her S1 effects have low uptime when she is by herself, and her S2 barely provides anything to anyone when on her own.

With Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade on the team, both of them receive such a massive glow up for their skills. Unfortunately, since neither have cooldown, it’s a pain to use them without an off-burst cooldown unit. Your main damage dealers would have to be true damage dealers (i.e. Vesti: Tactical Upgrade) to justify their use over other buffers, since it’s what they provide most of.

If not buffing true damage, there are likely going to be better options available for PvE.

Arena

While continuous heals, debuffs and buffs on burst seem good for PvP, being an MG means that PvP is an unfriendly place for Emma: Tactical Upgrade.

However, there is possible use for Emma: Tactical Upgrade in PvP when used on her own due to her permanent taunt that activates at the start. This will require further testing to see if it is worthwhile.

Special Interception | Union Raid | Solo Raid

Due to the fact that Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade and Vesti: Tactical Upgrade are still unavailable as of this writing, this can’t properly be tested yet, especially Vesti’s personal DPS vs Indivilia, and other bosses with parts. Depending on how Vesti’s S2 proc works, the Absolute team will either be great at defeating Indivilia or not worth considering.

On her own, Emma: Tactical Upgrade is definitely not worth considering over other currently available B1 units, especially because she lacks cooldown, meaning she provides way too little when by herself.

Strengths

  • Both Emma and Eunhwa combine to provide substantial buffs, debuffs and utility, especially to true damage.
  • Constant healing to allies, damage taken debuff to enemies and buffs in general when combined with both her and Eunhwa’s burst gives the team a lot of damage and survivability.
  • Always warm, hug her to keep warm.
  • Sexy, and has a really cool gun!

Weaknesses

  • Is incredibly mediocre on her own, since Eunhwa:TU enables a lot of her own passives. Her S1 uptime is so low by herself!
  • The permanent taunt she outputs when the battle starts, when she is by herself, will get her killed more often than not.
  • No cooldown on either her nor Eunhwa:TU means an off-burst source of cooldown is needed.
  • Tactical Upgrade didn’t upgrade her cooking…

Rating

Note: Outside of Arena, her rating includes Eunhwa: Tactical Upgrade. Emma: Tactical Upgrade is almost not worth running in PvE content on her own.

These are estimated to be the best teams for the Absolute squad as a whole. They can’t be considered individually, especially Emma, since she is by far the most mediocre on her own, unlike the other upgraded Absolute members.

Both Emma and Eunhwa combine to provide substantial true damage buffs to allies, and Vesti has a long base charge time, meaning depending on the boss, if true damage is the most desirable for it, either Vesti will want to receive as much buffing as possible with charge time reduction from either Alice (or Mana!), or the Absolute team buff the current best true damage unit, Ein, alongside Vesti.

Doll Priority

As a supporter doll with little scaling, it is not recommended to use a doll for Emma: Tactical Upgrade.

If you have any excess, it can slightly bump up the power of her burst’s buff and give her a DPS increase, which can be substantial for MG units, but it shouldn’t be upgraded so much for Emma, as she is not the main DPS.

S1 < S2Skill 1’s values have low numbers even with a lot of investment, so it is recommended to keep this skill at what you can afford.

Skill 2 provides a big true damage buff when combined with Eunhwa’s true damage buff that will empower both Eunhwa and Vesti. Since she will mainly work with her own squad, it is recommended to invest in S2 if using the team.

Burst provides a decent buff and improves her S1’s effects. The debuff will always double regardless of burst level, so investing more in it only improves the heals and caster ATK buff.

  1. Hi, readers. I’m sorry this is so late.
This is the first time I published it without N3x taking my prepared word doc.

    I’ll do better next time.

    • Check Eunhwa’s description and you would see Emma “should you pull” as well.
She MAY be worth a copy if you have enough to spend. Otherwise, wishlist her. She will shine only with her two fellow teammates, so getting Emma TU means one would want to get Vesti and Eunhwa as well.

  2. The “should you pull” question is easy and doesn’t need to be addressed. Here’s a simple algorithm so you can all determine for yourselves on all future units:

    1. Will the unit be added to the regular pool after the event?
1a. If “yes”, then skip and wishlist.

    2. Is the unit a Pilgrim?
2a. If “yes”, then in most cases, yes, you should pull while its drop rate is boosted, then add to wishlist later.

    3. Is the unit featured as part of a collaboration or seasonal event?
3a. If “yes”, then pull if you care about collecting, or check to see if its stats make it worthwhile to pull. Collab units are slightly weighted more for pulling since seasonal units usually get featured again.

In this case, Emma, Eunwha, and Vesti can all be skipped and wishlisted after the event. If you’re a new Commander, then definitely skip; you don’t need to be trying for 2-3 non-limited units just to make a single team work right now.

  3. Imagine asking “should I pull” in a gacha game. If you like or hate her then you shouldn’t even be asking, if you’re asking for gameplay purposes then you should’ve asked “how strong?”, which is exactly what this guide answers (pending Eunhwa’s and Vesti’s). “Is she worth pulling?” – that’s for you to decide. Value is relative. Who knows how many gems and tickets you have on you, who knows what other units you’re missing, who knows how much importance you place in Solo Raids and so on. Be your own person for once. What’s the point of playing a game where you roll for a character because someone on the internet tells you to?

    • You are expecting too much from community flooded by random ppl and kids after covid and gayshit release. Too many covid weebs and normies that never used their own brain to make a decision in their shitty lives and always rely on somebody’s opinion.

    • I know reading is hard these days when the average attention span is the length of a TikTok, but either make the effort or search TikTok.

If, on the other hand, you really need someone else to make decisions about a game for you, then you’re beyond my help.

  4. Thank you for your comments.
    I just plain forgot.
Added Should you Pull section right now.
    Spoilers: keep waiting

  5. I was wondering why there is no info about Emma anywhere and now i know we need to wait even longer, since you cant really tell how this works without whole trio. Seems like they could be very strong together but its also big investment since it will be 3 nikkes, i think i gonna stick to my fully geared mast/anchor for now.

    • yeah, it’s really annoying. eunhwa will be out very soon, so we can at least test how the duo can do in general cases (namely with Ein, the current best true damage dealer), as well as how Eunhwa can do in the DPS department. (she is an attacker, after all)

Vesti will definitely need the most, we need to see precisely how she works and what is best for her, since as the primary dps, she will be the one to make the most of what her teammates have.
